SEN Department

Jewels Leading Lights International is an inclusive educational institution that understands that to strive for all-encompassing excellence, education must be tailored to the specific needs of every child. We are proud to say that we are one of the few schools in Nigeria that offer a comprehensive programme designed to cater for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

As a school, we understand the diversity that comes with Special Educational Needs and as such conduct thorough assessments for intending students in order to understand their unique strengths, challenges, and learning style. This informs the creation of tailored Individualised Education Plans (IEP) to cater to their therapeutic, academic, and personal needs. Our team of experienced educators and certified therapists offer a range of services to support learners of varying peculiarities including: Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, Down syndrome, Mild cerebral palsy, Social communication challenges, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and other learning difficulties.

Open to students aged 2 - 16 years, JLLI's SEN programme starts early because we strongly believe that early intervention is key to addressing special educational needs. The progress we have made over the years is a testament to the effectiveness of our all-encompassing therapeutic curriculum which covers speech therapy, occupational therapy, Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), social skills training, play therapy, and music and art therapies, to mention a few. The effective application of our curriculum has helped our learners in acquiring communication skills, social skills, daily living skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, cognitive skills, and emotional regulation skills.

Designed to guide learners through their entire school years, our Special Educational Needs programme employs a comprehensive and supportive process that begins in Early Years (ages 2-5) with individualised learning plans, play-based therapy, Montessori activities and collaboration with parents. It continues through Primary School (ages 5-11) with adapted curriculum, differentiated instruction, and regular progress monitoring; and finally evolves in Secondary School (ages 11-16) with personalized learning plans, subject-specific support, and transition planning. At every step of this journey, our learners are supported by Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), parental involvement, SEN support staff, and continuous professional development for educators and therapists, ensuring a tailored and holistic approach that empowers learners to achieve successful outcomes.

We uphold the highest standards of excellence at Jewels Leading Lights International. Our SEN department boasts a team of highly qualified and experienced Special Educational Needs professionals. These include educators who are experts in assessing student needs and crafting personalised learning plans; occupational therapists who utilise evidence-based practices and strategies to empower learners to develop and refine essential skills; speech and language pathologists who employ world-class standards and evidence-based practices to enhance communication skills; and ABA therapists who utilise applied behaviour analysis techniques to promote social, adaptive, and emotional development of learners.
