Job Title: School Matron/Nurse (Full-Time)
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate School Matron/Nurse to oversee the health, hygiene, and general well-being of students. This role combines both medical and pastoral care, requiring a nurturing presence, strong nursing skills, and the ability to manage basic health issues and emergencies in a school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide basic and emergency medical care to students and staff as needed.
- Monitor students’ health and maintain accurate medical records.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Educate students on hygiene, nutrition, and basic health practices.
- Supervise cleanliness and hygiene practices within the school premises (dormitories, restrooms, etc.).
- Offer emotional support and pastoral care, ensuring students’ comfort and well-being.
- Collaborate with parents and school management on student health concerns.
- Coordinate hospital visits when necessary and maintain proper communication with parents.
- Assist in health-related school activities and inspections.
- Maintain the infirmary and ensure all supplies and equipment are up to date.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or relevant health discipline.
- Must possess a valid and up-to-date Nursing and Midwifery Council license.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a school or child-care environment.
- Warm, caring personality with strong communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently.
- Must have a good understanding of child development and common pediatric health issues.
- Must be based in Abuja.
